Watch A Skilled Bladesmith Make A $960 Kitchen Knife

Blenheim Forge is a steel workshop in Peckham, London. The workshop creates a range of traditional hand-forged kitchen knives. Each knife is made entirely in-house; the blade is first laminated and folded before being forged into the correct shape. Once shaped, the blade is sharpened on a grind stone and belt grinder.

Some of their knives are laminated with 200 layers of metal and each one has a unique pattern. The knives are often made in small batches and they range in price from £160 to £700.

  1. To be honest, as an amateure knife maker I find this video to be both entertaining and boring as well. Entertaining because it's nice to see the blade itself. Boring because you are being repetitive and stating obvious facts like when you said then handle is shaped towards the form of the blade. It is always done that way. Anyway, I like this video but please tell more to the general public about the amount of labour put into the knife (because all the knifes I see are demascus steel, which is extremely labour intensive) so that the general popolous understands more about why these knives are so expensive.

  2. I went from being a chef to blacksmithing then back to being a chef. These are art forms. Just like painting or architecture. I think artisans are a different breed of people that should demand more respect. These things are taken for granted by the consumer all too often

  3. I watched this video great craft and work goes in to this knife great quality and care in pounds this works out to be around £700 this is not a lot of money for and hand made knife when you look at nesmuk knives there top knives are around £4300 for a gyuto knife then also you need to consider the steel its made out of even this steel used in these knives is very high quality sbs steel and Swedish steel my only comment on there site is that there are no sayas for the knives I would love a saya in the same as the handle that would just finish the knives of proper quality very nice work stay sharp

    Overpriced!

  5. Well, today folding doesnt make the blade better, it just makes it fancy. used to folding was necessary to push out impurities out of the steel. but with modern steel there is actually no need to do that anymore. but yeah, if you spend so much money on one knife I guess you want that its also pretty and not just sharp…
